- Neal Martin -Fairly deep color. Dramatic dark berry nose is brooding, getting better with each return to the glass. It is rich, spicy, smoky, and complex. In the mouth, it’s a dark, sullen, introverted wine that appeals to our intellect more than our hedonistic instincts. Wine #13 is dense and tannic, clearly in need of cellaring. It’s nicely balanced. There are excellent ripe blackberry fruit and minerals flavors, but these characteristics are not showing fully right now. However, this 2009 has awesome texture; from a tactile sense, it’s the wine of the night. Long, powerful, consistent finish. A great wine to lay down – at an affordable price!
